1 CommentsCraig Waddington: Eleven 30lb Carp in THREE Sessions!
All the action from an insane period of carp fishing for Craig Waddington where he banked a string of 30lb carp from two venues in a three session window!
Craig says…
I’ve been back on the wild pit now for a few weeks and after a slow start it, finally kicked off at the start of the month and I’ve enjoyed some incredible angling.
I fished one last session on the club lake whilst I was baiting the wild pit and managed a brace of special ones – a mid 30lb carp called Single Scale and the Big Fully well spawned out at around 30lb. This one is usually another mid 30 but it’s proper ancient so starting to drop a bit of weight now.
Remarkably, I caught the fully off the top on a trimmed down CompleX-T pop up, whereas Single Scale was off the bottom on a 15mm Peppered Squid pop-up over half a kilo of 15mm chops and Frenzied Hemp.
First session back on the pit the following week I had an amazing morning with fish of 40lb, 38lb and 36lb in a few hours.
I had a 30 the next morning before packing up to attend a christening then returned the following day and had a 41lb common!
The following weekend I had another brace of 30s – insane fishing!
Over the space of 3 sessions on 2 venues, I think I had 10 or 11 fish with nothing going under 30lb. Safe to say Peppered Squid is my new favourite bait!
All of the wild pit fish have been on 26mm/15mm Peppered Squid snowman rigs over big beds of 26mm and 20mm baits with some tigers.
I’ve put an unholy amount of particle in over 2 spots over a few weeks too – barrowing it all down through shoulder height nettles then inflating the boat and getting it all out has been incredibly hard work but thankfully worth it.
I’m going to keep going on there for a few more weeks then I’m back onto Dovecote for the autumn and winter. There’s at least a dozen 40s in there now and I’ve done really well on there in the winter a couple of seasons ago, so very much looking forward to that.
Tight lines
Craig
