James Champkin: Trio of Specimen Roach to 3lb 10oz!

James Champkin’s catch report behind his recent trip to a gravel pit in East Anglia which produced three specimen roach of 2lb 13oz, 2lb 15oz and 3lb 10oz!

James says…

During a recent weekend, I enjoyed an amazing session fishing for roach at a gravel pit in East Anglia, catching fish of 2lb 13oz, 2lb 15oz, and a new PB of 3lb 10oz!

I was on a social trip with a couple of old friends, and decided to fish for the roach on what is primarily a big carp venue. I used maggot feeder helicopter rigs, with 35g Drennan Feederbombs and size 12 hooks on 5lb fluorocarbon hooklinks, with red maggots as hookbaits. I fished these over Frenzied Hemp and Sweet & Milky Mixed Particles with a dash of Sweet Tiger Liquid Carp Food for good measure.

I also caught several tench and a number of eels during the session. The weather was dreadful, with strong winds blowing directly into our bank and driving rain, but the fishing and company more than compensated!
