Dan Hyne – Carping Under the Northern Lights

Dan Hyne tells a tale from his latest carp fishing trip where he was lucky enough to experience the Northern Lights from the banks of his local club lake. Read on to find out how his session unfolded…

After a super busy start to the year I’m finally managing to get back out on the bank.

I managed a quick over nighter on Monday at one of my local club lakes. With temperatures up to 33c the weather wasn’t on my side but I decided to stick it out anyway…and what a night it was!

It was far too hot for a bivvy so I slept under the stars and enjoyed an intense meteor shower followed by the Northern Lights.

The night was as slow as expected but at first light I could see signs of carp milling around my right hand rod which I’d placed on a hard patch in the margin.

The night before when putting the rods out for the night I had thrown a couple of handfuls of soaked Hot Crab & Krill boilies along with a tin of Dynamite Chilli Hempseed with added Evo Hemp Oil. The constant slick on the surface made me fully aware that something was intended down there.

About an hour after spotting the fish, I hooked into a 25lb 2oz old mirror carp that had taken my 15mm Hot Crab and Krill pop-up.
