Ben Greenhill: My River Carp Fishing Campaign

Dynamite carper Ben Greenhill reflects on his epic river carp fishing season which saw him bank a string of fish from both bank and boat on the River Ouse…

Ben says…

Baiting started from early June on the River Ouse and I decided to target an area I’d gotten to know well from previous seasons.

This consisted of topping the spot up little and often, two or three times a week off the boat with Mixed Particles from the Dynamite range along with a mixture of 18mm and 20mm Hot Crab & Krill and Crave boilies. This soon got the attention of a few carp in the area and from the 16th of June onwards, I started to try and sneak one night in a week.

Heavy baiting with lots of Crave and Hot Crab & Krill boilie them coming back.

The first fish come a couple nights in and from then on it was just a matter of baiting and waiting for them to turn up and making the most of it. I managed six carp and lost one which I’m more than happy with in one season from the large river system.

Fishing with double 20mm Crave Hard Hookbaits on blowback rigs kept the bream numbers down and proved effective for the carp.

The first fish of the season was a lovely broad shouldered 25lb common.

The second and biggest of the season went 29lb 10oz – I was buzzing with this one as it was anew river PB!

Shortly followed by a smaller but hard fighting common the following morning…

A Stunning clean 22lb common.

A long dark 16lb common caught off the back of the boat.

The last and smallest of the campaign. Roll on next season!
