The full report from Kristof Cuderman and Claudia Darga’s latest carp fishing trip to the Czech Republic…
After much planning and searching for a date that would work for both of us, Claudia and I finally found time for our a week’s fishing session together.
The last time we managed to go fishing was in the summer of last year when we filmed a Dynamite video at Island Lake in France (you can watch the video on Dynamite YouTube Channel, here.).
This time however, we decided to head to a carp lake in the Czech Republic.
For some time I’ve been wanting to catch a carp over 30kg in this country and the location was also great for Claudia because she didn’t need to drive far this time.
After some discussion, we eventually chose a 26ha lake in the northern part of the country. This lake is crazy deep – up to 25 meters in places and the average depth is over 14 meters.
It’s also not possible to drive to your swim in a car so we put all our gear and bait into 2 boats and took them to our fishing areas that way.
We were told that if you see signs of carp jumping or showing during the boat journey to your swim then you’re in for a good session although, we did not see anything…
Eventually we reached the area we wanted to fish and discovered there was somebody already there but they were getting ready to leave. They fished there quite often and said that the fishing was crazy slow!
A week a go it had been fantastic but during this session, they had just 2 small fish in a 3 day session…
Not lingering too much on what the anglers had said, we quickly prepared our camp and went to sort the bait. This time we use 3 different boilies: Monster Tiger Nut, The Source and Peppered Squid. Together with mix of different size of boilies we used mix of Dynamite pellets.
It was during our set-up that we saw three carp surfaces which instantly filled our confidence levels back up!
Despite this however, the fishing started really slow…
It wasn’t until the second night that I caught my first carp at around 14kg. Claudia then caught a brilliant 22.5kg common later that night.
We hoped that fish would eventually become more active as the session went on but sadly, this wasn’t the case.
Day bites were none existent and we needed to wait all day and in the evening for some action. Thankfully, my next bite was a fantastic-looking common at 29.5kg!
When I saw the fish I immediately knew that would be very close to my target but in the end it was for 0.5kg too short. Still, an unbelievable carp to catch and I was very pleased considering the fishing was tough.
In the next days we caught some more nice fish over 20kg but never more then 3 fish in 24 hours.
There was also a break in between without a take for 36 hours, so it shows just how up and down the lake was fishing.
In the end we finished our session with 12 carp which was a very nice result all considering.
More importantly it was great to catch up and fish with Claudia again and we are already looking forward to our next fishing trip.
