7 CommentsI recently qualified for Junior Fish ‘O’ Mania and was really looking forward to it as it’s a really fun day out and there’s also a chance to win probably the most prestigious match in junior match fishing.
I drew peg 1 which I was obviously happy about with it being an end peg, but I knew I still had my work cut out.
I set up 4 shallow rigs all at different depths between 12 and 30 inches which I was hoping to use to catch ide and F1s on casters shallow down the track and also to use to fish towards the reeds at 16 meters.
I also set up an edge rig, a track rig for fishing underneath my shallow line and also a far bank rig which I planned to fish with pellets touching the bank.
At the start of the match, I went straight across and caught F1s and little tench using a banded Dynamite 4mm XL pellet on the hook whilst feeding a 50/50 mix of Dynamite 2mm Carp Pellets and Swim Stim Amino Original groundbait, which has become a real favourite for all of my F1 work. I fished this line for half an hour before making a switch to my caster shallow line down the track and I caught ide and odd F1s. However they were few and far between, so I decided to fish casters shallow to the reeds on the far bank at 16 metres. This line work very well and I was regularly putting fish in my net so carried on with this line for the rest of the match.
At the weigh in I was extremely nervous as I had heard that it was going to be close between all of the anglers. I put 25kg 675 on the scales which was enough to win the match with 21kg coming second, I was over the moon!
It really meant a lot to me winning the match because I had been putting a lot of effort into my F1 fishing over the last few months and I felt like this was what I’d been working towards.
