Dan Cleary Nets Horton Original

Dynamite Baits sponsored angler Dan Cleary, has landed one of Horton’s oldest residents on a recent session. Dan was targeting Horton’s famous Church Lake, when his zig rig was picked up by a fish known as ‘Boxer’.
Dan takes up the story…
"I arrived at the lake on Friday after work and straight away decided to place three bottom baits to the likely areas within my swim. Confident in my bait placement, I fished the whole of Saturday on the same spots, as there were a lot of fish showing over my baits.
By the time Sunday morning arrived, I decided that I needed to try a different approach, so set up a zig mid depth with a piece of black foam soaked in Dynamite Baits Savoury Spice Liquid Attractant. At around Sunday lunchtime, I received a couple of bleeps on the zig, and with the tip knocking I struck and felt the fish straight away, heading into church bay.
My Initial thoughts were that it might be a pike (around 20+ caught to chods etc over the previous two weeks), but when the fish boiled on the surface and took line, I knew it was carp.
It tried to go too my right into dog bay, but by applying plenty of pressure I soon had the fish in front of the swim. After a couple of minutes, my first fish caught on zig rig lay in the net, and what a fish it was! It was one of the old Horton Church stockings, Boxer at 34lb exactly.
We kept the fish out the water for as short as possible, mindful it was a very old fish. Before long it was powering off strongly from the margins and leaving me one very happy angler."
